MY STORY to climate action-(PART 2)

''The message is that we will be watching you''

Greta Thunberg's Speech At The U.N. Climate Action Summit thundered around the house which almost send shivers down my spine. Yes! someone has finally given a voice to this grave issue. For those who don't know who Greta Thunberg is; She is an 18-year-old activist from Sweden. She has become one of the world's best-known climate campaigners.

If she could draw millions of people through her very act of silence, then surely I had to do something too. The important fact is that she brought the youth to an international stage and gave us a voice that is now heard. We have to use this opportunity.

Well, that's not the aim of this blog. I want to share my few personal changes in my lifestyle contributing in my small ways to take a step back from -double quotes ''MASS EXTINCTION''.

  1. ZERO WASTE POLICY

Laren Singer, an environmental study student at NYU through her journey of experimenting life having a zero waste life inspired my first step.

Simple as it sounds, but it's a bit of a challenge. First I started with the food on my plate, not wasting a single grain of rice or the beans or even the curry leaves.

The key is not generating wastes such that it goes to the landfills which cannot be biologically broken down.

This method can also be done for clothes or the accessories you no longer wear or require can be sold through social media platforms. Which helps to declutter as well as get our hands on some business.

2. RECYCLE. RECYCLE. RECYCLE

I think recycling was one of the most important decisions I had taken to change my lifestyle.

I was never used to recycling, primarily because I was just very laid back. I was very lazy to segregate the plastic and paper because I was accustomed to throwing any piece of the waste directly in the bin without thinking twice.

And I truly do understand who can relate with me. But you have to trust me on this because this was a life-changer.

Assume the recyclable material, makes its way into the dustbin which is taken by the municipality truck, dumped into the landfill; the wind currents carry the plastic bag and reaches the beach shore where it is then washed into the sea. Broken down into small bits by nature, plastic is then eaten by the fishes, and then we eat these fishes. All the plastic ends up in our body completing the cycle.

Instead, we could just RECYCLE it. I don't think there is a more effective or easy solution than this.

3. Cut all foods which have a direct impact on the climate

Wait what? How could the food we eat possibly be related to climate change?

If this is the question that's in your mind trust me I asked myself the same thing everyday. It is not the specific food we eat, that impacts climate change rather- the process we make it. Let me give you an example.

You've decided on preparing grilled beef for your family, since it has a lot of fat content it takes a long time to get cooked. Longer the time taken to prepare

the meal the more the fuel it consumes. Which directly points to the fossil fuels at stake adding up to the pollution and climate change.

4. Spreading awareness

I know this is probably the fifth article you've read today about climate change but in the end, nothing is going to change if steps are not taken to change. You are going to come across many more.

But the minute we decide it's going to be each one of our future we're messing with we will feel naturally responsible for our carbon footprint.

That is why spreading the word is important.

CONCLUSION

Climate change is an issue. Many people pretend to ignore it even though they've heard it many times flashing through the news channels or in ted talks. Many accept it is an issue, but don't really know how they as an individual can possibly make a difference to this huge problem.

If you're in any one of these categories, you must remember change is knocking at your door. It is never too late nor early for anyone to change one's lifestyle.

Stay Safe. Live peacefully. Dream big.
